Supra P500 Pro Key Safe code setting helpUpdated 2 months ago

For instructions on how to code your Supra P500 Pro Key Safe please follow our easy step by step guide below.

A. Setting your combination

There is no pre-set combination on your Supra P500 Pro Key Safe. Select your own combination. Each number/letter can only be used once.

Do not use a combination that can be easily guessed.

1. Hold the clear plastic tab and pull open the weather cover.

2. Press down on the CLEAR button.

3. Turn the OPEN handle clockwise 180° to open the lid.

4. Use a screwdriver to remove the screw from the code tamper plate.

5. Slide the tamper plate towards the hinge of the key safe, pull out the plate and remove the plastic card from the key cover.

6. There are 10 numbered buttons and 2 lettered buttons with arrows on the back of the lid. Arrows pointing away from the hinge are OFF and are not part of the combination. Arrows pointing towards the hinge are ON and are part of the combination.

7. With the key safe open, turn the open handle counter-clockwise 180°, back to the locked position. Important! The OPEN handle must be in LOCKED position before the code can be changed. Forcing the setting buttons when in the OPEN position may damage the key safe and void the warranty.

8. Use the code change tool on the plastic card to set the combination. Note: Do not use a screwdriver! To add a number or letter to the code, use the code change tool to push in the grooved arrow by the number/letter you wish to set. Turn 180° until the arrow pops back up completely and the arrow points in the ON direction. To remove a number or letter from the code, use the code change tool to push in the grooved arrow by the number/letter you wish to set. Turn 180° until the arrow pops back up completely and the arrow points in the OFF direction.

9. Replace the plastic card on the key cover. Place the code tamper plate over the back of the lid and slide into place. Secure the plate with the screw.

Optional: To make the combination tamper-resistant, secure the plate with the anti-tamper screw located in the fitting kit provided using a Torx T15 anti-tamper driver.

B. Testing your combination

1. Make sure OPEN handle is in the locked position. If not, turn OPEN handle counter-clockwise until it’s in the locked position. On the front of the key safe, press only the buttons in your combination. Press each button in until it clicks. If you press the wrong button, push down on the clear button and enter your code again.

2. Turn the OPEN handle clockwise 180° to open. If the combination is set correctly, the OPEN handle will turn fully and the locking bolt will retract. If not, push down the CLEAR button and refer to section A, Setting your combination.

You may find it useful to watch the code setting video for the C500 Key Safe as it has the same mechanism as the P500.

The P500 Pro key safe has up to 4,096 possible code combinations. Along with the C500 Pro key safe, it was the first mechanical key safe to attain a security accreditation in the UK, initially achieving level 1. They have both been improved and now hold LPS1175 Issue 8 A5 certification from BRE (Building Research Establishment) Global.

All key safes in our police preferred range, including the P500, are also built to police preferred specification by 'Secured by Design', the official UK police security initiative which certifies products proven to reduce crime.

Buttons clicking

On mechanical key safes, the clicking of the buttons confirms that the number has been entered and registered.

For the P500 key safe, once you’ve pressed the button once, it will not click again until the mechanism has been reset (you can do this by pulling down the ‘CLEAR’ button’).

Can someone guess my code?

This is highly unlikely as that person would need to know how long your code was and what numbers are in your code.

The more secure you make your code, the less likely it is that someone would be able to guess it. This is one of the reasons that we say not to set only a 4 digit code and to avoid common codes such as a year of birth or sequential numbers (e.g. 12345).

Our recommendation is to set a code that is 5-6 digits long.

Our key safe codes can only be changed by those who have the original code. The code changing mechanism is on the inside so someone would need to open the key safe with the code in order to change it.

If you have supplied your code to others but want to make sure that they cannot change your code, you can fit an anti-tamper device, such as a cover plate over the code mechanism internally. This is supplied as standard with the P500 Pro key safe.

Although these plates do not increase the physical strength of the key safe, they restrict unauthorised persons from changing the code.

Stopping someone using your key safe

If you want to stop someone who has the code from opening your key safe, you will need to change the key safe code to a different combination. Just remember to give the new code to those that you want to be able to access your key safe such as your care provider. And keep a note of your new code somewhere safe as you will not be able to open your key safe without it.

You can change the code in your key safe as often as you wish.
